Nicole Chater celebrates completing her Careers Development Programme - Level 6
The course was really beneficial as it further highlighted the importance of our work and made me feel more equipped to manage different situations effectively. I began in this role because I wanted to make a difference to the lives of young people with learning disabilities and difficulties. This course will further support me to do that.
As a Personal Adviser in the Services for Young People Learning Difficulties and/or Disabilities Team in Children’s Services at Herts County Council, I began gaining experience in delivering careers work almost immediately. This was done through delivering guidance meetings and group works in our special schools. This qualification has allowed me to gain more knowledge and understand some of the theory behind what we do, meaning that the L6 was not only a benefit to me personally, but also to the schools I support and the organisation.
We were the first cohort to complete this apprenticeship, so I was apprehensive, particularly about the time commitment, alongside the rest of my work. The support from the tutors was brilliant throughout the course, they kept us motivated and were always there if we needed anything. It was also great to be able to meet other people in similar roles. This has allowed me to network and communication with other teams is now easier, having established these relationships.
“Nicole has had considerable impact in her role as a Services for Young People (SfYP) Learning Difficulties and/or Disabilities (LDD) Personal Adviser at Hertfordshire County Council. Through the implementation of a thorough and streamlined careers provision programme, Nicole is helping to ensure that all our young people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities have targeted support and advice and all leave school with the skills required to move into their preferred destination.” Tracy Noble, SfYP LDD Team Manager and Level 6 Career Development Professional Higher Apprenticeship Trailblazer Chair.
